About

Client: Phillip Parkinson Home Care

For: Arrow, Newcastle University

Completed: 2019

Value Hypothesis

The client

Phillip Parkinson Home Care (PPHC) provides domicile home care providing in-house social care for its service users (clients) around the North East and approached Arrow to help in their digital transformation needs with a requirements specification, with the goal of informing how they might plan transitioning from a wholly paper-based back-office system to a digital solution.

The problem

PPHC had a very large paper-based back office system that included detailed health records and medical needs of their clients, records of care delivery, visit logs, care giver notes and other information.

The documentation collected was labor intensive, time-consuming and prone to error.  They needed to create a requirements specification so that they could improve their back-office systems and provide better quality of care

My role

As the innovation associate on this project, I led the gathering of requirements.  My responsibilities included a state of play analysis, light touch user research, mapping exercises and collecting secondary research to gather needs and create a requirements specification document.

My approach

My process for this project involved:

  • Context: Understanding the project, the business need
  • Analysis: Analysing the current situation, mapping exercises, building feature narratives
  • Research: Secondary research in available software solutions
  • Report: Requirements specification documentation with a proposed technology delivery roadmap

Results

Recommendations highlighted a staggered approach to technology delivery, complete with training, and a prioritisation on GDPR data security, privacy and archiving.

From this project, the client was able to clarify their needs and understand the requirements of their proposed move from paper to digital.

Insight

Moving to paper to digital can be time-consuming.   Through careful planning and consideration of user needs, business needs and client needs, systems can be put in place to increase efficiencies; but also continue to provide best in class quality in care for its clients.
